Sunday October 15th, at 5:00pm
India’s extraordinary, historical relationship of intercultural coexistence is explored in an installation of 12 sculptures by Ghiora Aharoni, entitled The Road to Sanchi, which will be exhibited at the Rubin Museum, opening November 17, 2017.
Obsolete taxi rickshaw meters, transformed with video screens, document pilgrimage journeys to sacred sites throughout India that personify the nation’s cultural pluralism—an intrinsic element of India’s history as well as its present.
Rickshaw rides to sacred sites for Hindus, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists, filmed by the artist, become a meditation on the wonder that exists within a pilgrimage, the fluidity of time and the universal threads that unite cultures.
Join us for a conversation with the artist, accompanied by cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Admission is by private invitation.
